PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

1993 - 2005

Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of Biology (tenured), University of Pittsburgh at Titusville, Titusville, Pennsylvania.

The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville (UPT) is the only two-year regional campus of the University of Pittsburgh.  The campus provides career-oriented programs for those interested in pursuing associate degrees and also offers more than 100 relocation and transfer programs for students pursuing baccalaureate degrees.  UPT currently enrolls approximately 375 full-time and 150 part-time students and awards associate degrees in liberal arts, natural science, business, accounting, business information systems, human services, and physical therapist assistant.

My Duties and Responsibilities included:

As primary academic administrator for the faculty, my duties included performance of faculty evaluations, coordination of recommendations for promotion and tenure, organization of hiring procedures (search and screening) for full-time and part-time faculty members, etc.

Act as liaison between campus academic programs and the Office of the Provost, University of Pittsburgh, e.g. develop and defend documentation for new associate degree programs.

Supervise operations in the Office of the Registrar and the Campus Learning Center.

Organize and administer program development for non-traditional students.

Design and implement Internship Programs for students in associate degrees.

Develop class schedules for each term and coordinate student academic advising and registration.

Coordinate academic computing resources for students and faculty.

Coordinated faculty input for design of Broadhurst Science Center, new construction for housing biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and computer science and purchase of moveable equipment.

1990 - 1993

Associate Dean and Director of Research and Graduate Studies for the College of Life Sciences, and Professor of Biological Sciences, Louisiana Tech University, Ruston.

Louisiana Tech University is a comprehensive Ph.D.-granting institution with a total enrollment of approximately 10,000.  The College of Life Sciences housed the Departments of Agricultural Sciences, Technology & Education, Biological Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Science & Bacteriology, and Health Information Management, as well as the School of Forestry and the Division of Nursing.  The college, composed of 68 faculty members and 24 support staff, had an enrollment for Fall, 1992, of 1,443 undergraduates and 36 graduate students.

My Duties and Responsibilities included:

Perform the functions of the Dean in his absence.

Conduct the annual evaluation of college faculty and administrators.

Chair the faculty committee responsible for continued development of criteria for hiring, promotion, and tenure in the college.

Direct graduate education in the college through development of programs and policies, advisement of graduate students, and oversight of student progress.

Chair the Graduate Studies Committee--faculty members acting in an advisory capacity for the Graduate Studies Division; degree awarded is the Master of Science in Biological Sciences.

Direct the college research program by identifying sources for funding, providing administrative and intellectual support for research programs of faculty and students, and keeping informed about Federal and State regulations.  Annual college extramural funding is approximately $350,000.

Chair the Research Committee--faculty members acting in an advisory capacity for the Research Division.

Project director for the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology Education Act Basic Grant, "Vocational Education for 2-Year Nursing and 2-Year Medical Record Technology," $132,366.00, funded, 1991-92.

Chair the Premedical and Predental Advisory Committee:  coordinate application process for students applying to medical or dental schools and oversee preparation of committee recommendations.

Teach four courses per year which included Endocrinology, Histology, Introductory Animal Biology, and Human Anatomy & Physiology.

1976 - 1990

Professor and Head, Department of Zoology, Louisiana Tech University.  Tenured 1977.

Responsible for the department and its programs:  eight faculty members and 200 student majors.

Achieved one of the highest approval ratings of a department head by their faculty at the university.

Established the Zoology Equipment Fund, soliciting contributions from alumni and corporate sponsors.

Established total computerization for the first department at the university.

1976

Promoted to rank of Professor, Department of Biology, University of South Dakota, Vermillion.

1974 - 1976

Academic Opportunity Liaison Officer, half-time appointment and half-time appointment as Associate Professor of Biology, University of South Dakota, Vermillion.

As Academic Opportunity Liaison Officer, worked to increase involvement of women and minority students in academic programs.

1971 - 1976
