Cemeteries

This page is devoted to photographs of cemetery scenes and monuments important in the families of Heřmánek, Čechota, Tumpach, Vejvoda, Peaslee, Read, Hawley, and Milne.

Osek, Czech Republic, between Prague and Plzen. Entering town from the south.

House number 54, front view.  This is where a good number of Tumpachs were bred, born, and died.

View over farmyards looking east toward the Catholic church.  Osek number 86 lies just to the right.  There was no sign of number 87, which was the home of the Emiliam Tompach branch of the family.  These Tompachs who were born or died in the 1800s lived at Osek number 87.

Center of town.  Statue of saint is under the tree at left.

Statue of St. John of Nepomuk at the center of town.  Church lies just off to the left.

Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and part of its surrounding wall.  Parish was established in the 1300s.  Church was originally built in the 1500s.

Plaque inside the church states that a renovation was carried out in 1908-1909.  Dr. Josef Tumpach paid the cost of restoring the interior and Prince Josef Colloredo-Mansfeld paid the cost of restoring the church exterior.

The Castle, dating from 1683, is in the southeastern part of town and is in the process of total renovation.

Cemetery located on the west side of town.  Large black cross at the far left is a Tumpach grave.

Tumpach monument, just below cross.  These are the parents of Dr. Josef Tumpach, Father, Vaclav (July 11, 1827 - January 9, 1891) and Mother, Barbora, nee Aubrecht, (March 11, 1837 - March 24, 1894).

Lower portion of monument same at left.  Dr. Josef Tumpach (December 21, 1862 - November 20, 1916) and Katherine Tumpach (June 24, 1875 - February 11, 1939).
