Linda Winkler Recipient of 2005

Chancellor's Distinguished Teaching Award

TITUSVILLE, Apr. 27 – Dr. Linda Winkler, associate professor of anthropology and biology at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville, was named the recipient of a 2005 Chancellor's Distinguished Teaching Award.  She has been with the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville since January 1981.

In a letter to Winkler, University of Pittsburgh Chancellor Mark Nordenberg said, "You foster excitement in your students, broaden their minds and develop their research skills, resulting in undergraduate student presentations at professional conferences and joint publications.  Summer field work to examine primate behavior in Costa Rica and Nicaragua and your community-health service trips to Tanzania attract undergraduate and graduate students.  In these settings, the energy and commitment you demonstrate produce unique and memorable learning experiences.  You have enriched the learning environment of the Titusville campus in many ways, including creating and advising an organization for nontraditional-aged students, advising the travel club, and presenting with your students at the brown bag luncheons.  The high esteem with which you are held by your students and colleagues is now also recognized by this University-wide award."

Because Winkler is currently participating in the Semester at Sea experience, she was unable to attend the University Honors Convocation held earlier this semester.  However, her name was listed in the program with the other recipients of the award.

UPT President Michael Worman said, “I extend congratulations to Dr. Winkler on behalf of the entire UPT campus community for this well-deserved accomplishment and the honor it has brought to her as well as to this campus.”
