UPT TO HOST "SUMMER SCIENCE FOR KIDS"

TITUSVILLE, May 16 -- It’s time once again to register for “Summer Science for Kids” at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville.  Sponsored by the Biology and Chemistry Departments each summer, these two weeklong day camps provide a fun educational experience to students entering grades four through twelve.

Students will enjoy learning about chemistry, biology and physics through demonstrations, hands-on projects, laboratory work, and various field trips.

Activities will include lab observation of mice; constructing growth curves for mouse pups; building motors, generators, and levitators; making muscle wire devices; building bridges, density columns, roller coasters, ornaments, steam boats, solar bags, CO2 rockets and tie-dye shirts; studying parasite ecology and molecular biology; and taking field trips to Oil Creek and Oil Creek State Park.

Day Camp 1 is scheduled July 16-20 and Day Camp II will be held July 23-27.  There is a cost to participate in the camp, but financial aid is available to students in Crawford, Venango and Warren counties based on family income and grade point average.

Class sizes are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  The deadline to apply is June 15.  To request an application or to obtain more information, please contact Dr. Ping Furlan, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at UPT, at 814-827-4425 or 4476, or visit “Summer Enrichment Program” at http://www.pitt.edu/~uptchem.
