UPT SUMMER CAMPS PROMISE FUN FOR KIDS

TITUSVILLE, May 29 -- Students in grades 4-12 are gearing up for fun at UPT’s summer camps.  This year, for the first time, an overnight camp is being offered to grades 7 and 8.  The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville offers the Summer Enrichment Program every year, under the direction of Dr. Ping Furlan, associate professor of chemistry.  Applications are still being accepted, but on a limited basis as spaces are going quickly.

This year, Summer Enrichment is offering three camps:  Day Camp I for grades 7-12; Day Camp II for grades 4-6, and Overnight Camp for Grades 7-8.

Day Camps I and II are scheduled July 15-19, while Overnight Camp will be held July 8-10.

As part of the camps, students will enjoy chemistry, ecology, sports, physics, web page and a favorite, Mouse Camp, where students study the growth and behavior patterns of white mice.  In addition, overnight campers will go swimming and study poetry.  As part of Ecology Camp, students will make a field trip to Oil Creek and Oil Creek State Park to learn about plants, insects and their environmental relationships.

The camps are open to the public.  Costs may be defrayed through scholarships available through the John Nesbit Rees/Sarah Henne Rees Foundation, based on academic merit and financial need.

Several UPT faculty will supervise and teach the students:  Dr. Margaret Peaslee-Mouse Camp, Dr. Ping Furlan-Chemistry Camp, Mr. Christopher Coat-Ecology Camp, Dr. Furlan and Mr. Jeff Ottney-Physics Camps, Dr. Herb Kitson-Poetry Camp, and Coach Dean Chappel and Mr. Tim Sneeringer-Sports Camp.

It’s not too late to sign up.  For more information, contact Dr. Furlan at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville at 814-827-4425 or by email at furlan@pitt.edu
