SUMMER ENRICHMENT CAMPS PROMISE
LEARNING AND FUN FOR KIDS IN GRADES 4-9
TITUSVILLE, Nov. 5 --
Students in grades four through nine may begin
planning for fun at UPT’s Summer Enrichment
camps. Once again, an overnight camp is being
offered to grades 7-9. The University of
Pittsburgh at Titusville offers the Summer
Enrichment Program every year, under the
direction of Dr. Ping Furlan, associate
professor of chemistry.
Applications are due by June 15; however,
applications received by May 15 will receive a
10% discount. In addition, scholarship
applications based on academic merit and
financial need are available through the John
Nesbit Rees/Sarah Henne Rees Charitable
Foundation.
This
year, Summer Enrichment is offering three day
camps and one residential camp: Day Camp I for
grades 7-9; Day Camp II for grades 4-6; Day Camp
III for grades 4-6, and Residential (overnight)
Camp for Grades 7-9.
Day
Camp I is scheduled July 7-10, Day Camps II and
III from July 14-18, and Residential Camp from
July 7-9.
The
camps will show students that learning can be
fun as they enjoy studying chemistry, ecology,
sports, and physics, learn to create a web page,
and participate in a favorite, Mouse Camp, where
students study the growth and behavior patterns
of white mice.
In
addition, overnight campers will go swimming and
study poetry. As part of Ecology Camp, students
will make a field trip to Oil Creek and Oil
Creek State Park to learn about plants, insects
and their relations with environments.
Several UPT faculty will supervise and teach the
students: Dr. Margaret Peaslee-Mouse Camp, Dr.
Ping Furlan-Chemistry Camp, Mr. Christopher
Coat-Ecology Camp, Dr. Furlan-Physics Camps, Dr.
Herb Kitson-Poetry Camp, Mr. Dennis
L’Huillier-Math Camp, and
Mr. Tim Sneeringer-Sports Camp.
