UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH AT TITUSVILLESTUDENTS IN FREE ENTERPRISE REMAIN REGIONAL CHAMPS - FOUR YEARS RUNNING
TITUSVILLE, Apr. 11 - The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team retained the title of Regional Champions after participating in the Cleveland, Ohio SIFE USA Regional Competition on April 6, 2005. After presenting a report of their year-long community outreach projects to a panel of business leaders, the UPT SIFE Team was named a SIFE USA Regional Champion in the overall competition and a finalist in the SIFE USA National Free Market Economics Competition sponsored by Aflac, the SIFE USA Polsky Personal Investing in Equity Mutual Funds Competition, and the SIFE USA Business Ethics Competition sponsored by Campbell’s and Sealed Air. The Team will compete at the SIFE USA National Exposition May 22-24 in Kansas City, Missouri. Melanie O. Anderson, UPT SIFE Team advisor and Sam Walton Fellow, says, “Our SIFE Team worked on 25 projects that impacted over 3,000 individuals in our community. The 24 members of our SIFE Team have worked diligently on our projects and did an excellent presentation of the results at the SIFE Regional Competition.” During the academic year, the UPT SIFE Team organized 25 projects in the Titusville community, including Junior Achievement International Marketplace, a 10 week program presented to 7th and 8th grade students at Cochranton High School; the School Store project, organized for 4th grade students in Titusville School District; and the Entrepreneur Network Seminar, a free seminar offered to the community in February. SIFE is an international non-profit organization active on over 1800 university campuses in more than 40 countries. SIFE Teams create economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects that teach market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills and business ethics. Their projects are judged at competition on creativity, innovation and effectiveness.
