TITUSVILLE, Apr. 23 -- The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team once again captured the Regional Champion title in the two-year school league category at the 2004 SIFE Regional Competition and Career Opportunity Fair, held on April 7 in Cleveland, Ohio.

The UPT SIFE Team will advance to the SIFE USA National Exposition, hosted by the Kansas City Business Community, from May 23–25.

SIFE encourages students to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it to real-life situations, using their knowledge to better their communities through educational outreach projects.

This year, the UPT SIFE Team brought the Titusville community E-SIFE, a school store project run by fourth grade students in the Titusville School District, and SAFE, Seniors Against Fraud Via Education, a project to teach senior citizens how to protect themselves from fraudulent schemes.

In competition, teams are judged on how well their projects taught others the principles of free enterprise.

Melanie O. Anderson, advisor to the UPT SIFE Team, was named a Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow in recognition for her leadership and support of the SIFE program.  Anderson says, “SIFE is a wonderful opportunity for students to work with the community, sharpen their communication skills and network with business professionals.  We are proud of our SIFE Team’s work this year and are honored that they were again, for the third year in a row, named Regional Champions.”

Founded in 1975 and active on more than 1600 college and university campuses in 40 countries, SIFE is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with business and higher education to provide students the opportunity to make a difference and to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise.
