UPT SIFE TEAM DELIVERS SECOND ANNUAL

INVESTMENT CHALLENGE

TITUSVILLE, Feb. 2 -- The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville (UPT) Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team sponsored the second annual investment challenge last fall from October 28 to November 17.

The challenge was organized by UPT SIFE members Jon Upton and Joe Gustafson.  At the kickoff meeting, UPT students were presented with information about stocks and the stock market.  They were challenged to use $5,000 in virtual money to select from 3 – 5 stocks from at least two different market sections.  In addition, students were required to track the stocks for a 3 week period.  The students with the largest overall gain (or least loss) won cash prizes.

Eleven students accepted the challenge, and the top three students were Leland Koehler - $50 prize, Emily Dunn - $25, and Tatyana Pavlov - $10.  The stocks they selected included Nike, IBM, Target, General Electric, and Hershey’s.  The SIFE Team also selected 3 stocks to track using a random (dart) method.  Their gains placed them in the top five.

SIFE is a nonprofit, international organization with active teams on over 870 college campuses in over 33 countries worldwide.  For more information about SIFE, call SIFE World Headquarters at 1-800-677-SIFE, visit their website at www.sife.org, or call Melanie Anderson, UPT SIFE Faculty Advisor, at 827-4415.
