TITUSVILLE, Feb. 19 -- Students of the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville's SIFE Team (Students In Free Enterprise) will help fourth grade students of the Hydetown Elementary School start a small store that will offer 10 items for sale to fellow elementary students. Items will include notepads, pencils, pens, erasers, stickers, folders, American flag pins, Hydetown T-shirts and eagle beanie babies. The E-SIFE Store (Elementary Students In Free Enterprise) will be open in the Hydetown School cafeteria February 19-March 1, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. The SIFE Team will provide the seed money (in the form of inventory and change) to start the store as a loan. The fourth-graders will repay the loan to SIFE, but will keep any profits to be used for the benefit of Hydetown School and its students. According to SIFE, the project will teach the children about economics, marketing, accounting, math, and how to work as a team to achieve a common objective, as well as develop interpersonal skills. For more information, contact SIFE World Headquarters in Springfield, Mo., at 800-677-SIFE, visit www.SIFE.org, or call UPT SIFE Advisor Melanie Anderson at 827-4415.
