UPT SIFE TEAM TEACHES CREDIT

CARD REALITY ON CAMPUS

TITUSVILLE, Nov. 9 -- During the week of November 11-17, the Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team from the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville will help fellow college students gain an understanding of the responsible use of credit cards as part of a special competition developed by SIFE.

During Responsible Use of Credit Week, the UPT SIFE team will host the The Weakest Link Presentation on Wednesday, November 14, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in Haskell Auditorium.  Based on the hit television series, participants will learn the basics of credit card usage and practice their newfound skills in a quest not to be the weakest link.

The public is invited to attend.  Tickets may be purchased for 50 cents, or three for $1.00 by calling UPT SIFE Advisor Melanie Anderson at 827-4415.  Remaining tickets will be sold at the door.

A May 2001 poll conducted by SIFE found that 80% of 1,032 college students own at least one credit card.  Of those students, 65% received a credit card by the time they were college freshmen, while 25% received one while a senior in high school.

SIFE Teams across the country are planning weeklong educational events that include developing web pages, videos, pamphlets, campus workshops, lunch seminars, game shows and poster contests.  The Responsible Use of Credit Week competition will award $13,500 to SIFE Teams with exceptional projects.

Active on more than 1000 college campuses in 25 countries, SIFE is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with business and higher education to help students take what they learn in the classroom and apply it to real work situations to better themselves, their communities and their countries.

Founded in 1975, SIFE provides college students with the opportunity to make a difference and to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise.
