UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH AT TITUSVILLE
SIFE TEAM NAMED FREE ENTERPRISE
REGIONAL CHAMPIONS
TITUSVILLE, April 7 -- The University of
Pittsburgh at Titusville Students in Free
Enterprise Team matched its educational outreach
projects against the programs of other SIFE
Teams at the 2003 SIFE Regional Competition and
Career Opportunity Fair held March 31 in
Cleveland.
The UPT SIFE Team was named Regional Champions
in the two-year league and will advance to the
SIFE National Competition in Kansas City on May
11 where they will compete with 22 other winners
from around the country.
SIFE encourages students to take what they are
learning in the classroom and apply it to
real-life situations, and to use their knowledge
to better their communities through educational
outreach projects. The projects presented by
the UPT SIFE Team included: E-SIFE School
Stores, SAFE (Seniors Against Fraud via
Education), Firm Up Your Future, and Who Wants
to be a Millionaire.
Teams were judged on the effectiveness of their
projects during the 24- minute presentation and
were evaluated on creativity and innovation,
results of education programs, success in
utilizing resources and documentation of
activities. UPT SIFE students also met with
corporate representatives from the Cleveland
business community to discuss job opportunities.
Melanie O. Anderson, UPT SIFE
advisor, was named a Sam M. Walton Free
Enterprise Fellow for the third consecutive year
in recognition of her leadership and support of
the SIFE program. Anderson noted, “The SIFE
students worked hard this year delivering 16
projects to the college and community. The
success at the regional competition is evidence
of their hard work and enthusiasm in teaching
others about Free Enterprise.”
