A YEAR LATER:  REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11

TITUSVILLE, Sept. 10 -- The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville will honor the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and all victims of terrorist attacks in our country and throughout the world.

Organized by Ms. Judy Berneburg, Director of Counseling, and Mrs. Karen Skinner, Director of Health Services, a day of tributes and memorials has been planned.

  • Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear red, white and blue on Wednesday, September 11.

  • A "Remembering Wall" will be established in the Student Union lobby to record thoughts and memories of 9/11.

  • The campus bell will be rung at 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., 9:45 a.m., and 10:10 a.m. in commemoration of the victims of the four airplane crashes into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Somerset County.  Everyone is encouraged to observe a moment of silence when they hear the bells toll.

  • Free ribbons will be distributed at the Student Union desk and may be worn throughout the week.

  • The Student Activity Board (SAB) will sell "United We Stand" tee-shirts in the Student Union Lobby on Tuesday, September 10, and Wednesday, September 11.

The UPT faculty, staff and students will join together as they pause on Wednesday and remember all of the lives lost through terroristic acts, and to give thanks for a country that works hard to protect its people and preserve their freedom.

The community is welcome and encouraged to visit the campus to hear the bells toll, or to sit on a bench for a quiet moment of reflection.
