"Renaissance City Winds" to Perform on November 29.

Anne-Marguerite Michaud, Harpist Renaissance City Winds

TITUSVILLE, Nov. 22 - The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville will present Pittsburgh's Renaissance City Winds, with harpist Anne-Marguerite Michaud, on Tuesday, November 29, at 7:30 p.m.  The concert, entitled Holidays with Harp, will be held in Henne Auditorium on the campus.

The concert features a chamber music version of Maurice Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin, one of the classics of the twentieth century.  The various movements were written in memory of friends of Ravel who were killed in World War I.  Harpist Michaud will be featured in Handel’s Concert for Harp and a colorful Russian Romantic piece, An Evening In Georgia [U.S.S.R.] by Michael Ippolitov-Ivanov.

The concert also includes a holiday work by the late Pittsburgh composer, Roland Leich.

Harpist Michaud is acting principal harp with the Baltimore Symphony.  She was recently heard on Public Radio International with the Cuarteto Latino Americano, and has been a soloist with the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the United States Air Force Orchestra, the Butler County Symphony, and other regional orchestras.

Her 1998 solo CD album on the Summit label, A Touch of Elegance, was a tribute to the transcriptions and original compositions of her harp teacher, the late Marcel Grandjany, and has been hailed by critics as “the best harp recording ever.”  She is an artist lecturer in harp at Carnegie Mellon University and Grove City College, and also teaches privately.

The Renaissance City Winds, named after Pittsburgh’s nickname, has become one of Pennsylvania's foremost chamber ensembles since its founding in 1975.  Hailed by the New York Times as "expert wind players," the ensemble tours throughout the East and Midwest, and has performed hundreds of concerts for colleges, public schools, and community concert organizations.

Special honors include two New York concerts at Carnegie Recital Hall, an appearance at the Kennedy Center, and a performance at the Pennsylvania Governor's Residence in Harrisburg.

The ensemble presents two series in its home base of Pittsburgh, a subscription series at Carlow College, and Music for Neighborhoods - concerts which take place in noted architectural sites.

In its first season, the Renaissance City Winds won the prestigious Pittsburgh Concert Society auditions.  Since then it has received national recognition from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, Meet the Composer, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Chamber Music America.  It is heard frequently on public radio, and can be heard on two commercial CDs.
