UPT STUDENTS LEARN TO RAPPEL AND ROCK CLIMB

Students "gear-up"

TITUSVILLE, Oct. 15 -- Students from the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville recently traveled to the Panthers' Caves near President and Eagle Rock and spent the day learning to rappel and rock climb.  Joseph Croskey, Coordinator of Retention at UPT, served as the group leader.

Two Oil City veteran climbers taught the students the necessary skills.  Mike Canaan, Oil City police officer, and Larry Deal, United States postal employee, helped the students practice on a 40-foot wall before attempting the 150-foot rappel.  Some students opted for climbing up, rather than down, and climbed a 60-foot vertical face instead.

The students tested their abilities, overcame fears, and are planning to return to the Panthers' Caves.
