AMERICANS IN CRAWFORD COUNTY, 1800-1950"

TITUSVILLE, Feb. 11 -- Photographs and the history of African Americans in Crawford County will be the topic of a special presentation at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville’s Haskell Auditorium on Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at 7:30 p.m.   Dr. Marianne Woods, a Commonwealth Speaker for the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, will present “A Significant Past:  Photographs of African Americans in Crawford County, 1800-1950.”  The presentation is free-of-charge and open to the public.

African Americans in Crawford County carved out a significant past in the county’s first century and a half.  Marianne Woods explores this history and the accomplishments of African Americans in Crawford County – from those serving as Underground Railroad operators to the first graduate of Allegheny College, who became the first black president of Delaware State College.
