PROFESSOR AND STUDENT ATTEND WORLD

CONGRESS IN CZECH REPUBLIC

 

Marlene S. Hamrick (left) and Dr. Margaret H. Peaslee (right) toured the Czech Republic earlier this summer.  Dr. Peaslee presented a paper at the 22nd World Congress of the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences.  Hamrick, a UPT student, studied abroad in the Czech Republic after receiving a $5,000 Vira L. Heinz Travel Study Award.

TITUSVILLE, Sept. 10 - Dr. Margaret H. Peaslee, Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville and Professor of Biology, recently presented a paper at the 22nd World Congress of the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences in Olomouc, Czech Republic. 

Her paper was titled, "Listening for Whispers: the Relationship between Bozena Nemcova and F.M. Klacel." 

Marlene S. Hamrick of Youngsville, a student in the UPT Study Abroad Program, accompanied Peaslee.  They visited the cities of Prague, Olomouc, Moravsky Krumlov, and Brno, the castles of Spilberk, Pernstejn, and Hradcany, and the caves at the Moravsky kras.  In addition, they toured the Augustinian Monastery and the Mendel Museum in Brno. 

Peaslee and Hamrick visited the site of Mendel's garden, where he carried out his experiments in genetics, as well as his recently-renovated bee houses, which were important in his studies of heredity.
