TITUSVILLE, Sept. 8Joe Last joined the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville in January of this year as the new Director of Health Services.  This fall, he begins his second semester in charge of student health and brings years of experience to benefit the students and the campus.

            A graduate of Rocky Grove High School, Last earned his nursing degree at Gannon University, obtained his certification as a paramedic through the Erie County Paramedic Program, became certified as a paramedic by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and board certified as a Certified Emergency Nurse (C.E.N.).

            Last began his nursing career at the Titusville Area Hospital as a paramedic in the Emergency Medical Services Department.  He worked as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department and served as Emergency Department Nurse Manager and Assistant Critical Care Coordinator prior to coming to work at UPT.

            Last resides in Titusville with his wife Kerri and their children, Abby, Kristi and Chandler.

            Amy E. Heath, DPT, joined the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville this fall as the new Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education.

            Heath earned both her Bachelor of Science in Health Studies and Doctorate of Physical Therapy degrees from Simmons College in Boston.  She was listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges in 2001.

            Prior to coming to UPT, Heath served as a site coordinator and a physical therapist at HEALTHSOUTH Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as well as Sports Center Facilities Supervisor and Student Athletic Trainer at Simmons College Holmes Sports Center.

            She has extensive clinical experience in pediatrics and in sports medicine.  Heath has conducted a two-day credentialing program workshop and an upper extremity anatomy workshop.  She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association.

            Originally from Toledo, Heath visits her family frequently.  She resides in Titusville and in her free time enjoys golfing, hiking and biking.

             Louise Schwabenbauer, M.Ed., of Oil City, joined the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville nursing faculty as part of the new nursing program that UPT launched this fall.  She will teach Fundamentals of Nursing Practice and assist with clinical instruction in other nursing courses.

            Schwabenbauer is an experienced nursing educator who has taught nursing at both the collegiate and vocational levels for over 15 years.  Her clinical background includes experience as a hospital staff nurse on medical, surgical and psychiatric nursing units.  In addition, she helped educate nurses while a member of the hospital staff development department.

            Recently, Schwabenbauer was selected as a question writer for the National Council Licensure Examination for nurses and as a new program evaluator for the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission.  Her philosophy of nursing education is based upon her belief that nurses need a curriculum that fosters professionalism and enhancement of the profession of nursing.

            Schwabenbauer earned two master’s degrees, one in education from Lock Haven University in 2002, and a Master’s in Nursing Education in 2004 from the collaborative degree program offered by Clarion/Edinboro/Slippery Rock Universities.

            She is married to UPT Campus Police Officer Randy Schwabenbauer and the mother of three children.  In her free time, Schwabenbauer enjoys biking, swimming, snow skiing and hiking.

            Karen Sumoske, M.S., of Cooperstown, joined the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville nursing faculty as part of the new UPT nursing program launched this fall.  She is assisting with the Nursing Foundations course and Freshmen Studies this fall, teaching Fundamentals of Nursing in the spring term, and preparing an eight credit, medical-surgical nursing course for next summer.

            Prior to coming to UPT, Sumoske was the Nurse Educator at Clarion County Career Practical Nursing Program.  She has served as the Administrator of Medicare-Certified Hospice, Nurse Manager of Cancer Care and Nursing Specialties, Hospice Community Educator, and as an Intensive Care Unit Clinical Supervisor.

            Sumoske earned her Master of Science in Nursing Education from Regis University, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Gannon University, and her Associate of Science in Nursing from Clarion University. 

            She is certified as a Hospice Palliative Care Nurse, National Certified Bereavement Facilitator, Critical Care Registered Nurse, American Heart Association CPR Instructor, and in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

            Sumoske was recognized as an Exceptional Nurse Educator in 2002 by the National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses.

            She is a member of the National League for Nursing and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing-Eta XI Chapter.

            Sumoske and her husband Art have three children and four grandchildren.

            Karen Schmidt, M.S., R.D., of Oil City, has joined the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville new Nursing Program faculty this fall.  She will be teaching Nutrition for Clinical Practice.

            Schmidt has been a Registered Dietitian since 1978, and is licensed in Pennsylvania and certified in Wisconsin.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics Degree from Michigan State University and her Master of Science in Nutrition Degree from Pennsylvania State University.  She completed her dietetic internship at the Oregon Health Sciences University.

            Prior to coming to UPT, Schmidt served as a Nutrition Education Program Coordinator for the University of Wisconsin-Cooperative Extension, where she developed and delivered nutrition education programs.

            Schmidt is the co-author of the text Nutrition Assessment:  Theory and Practice for Penn State University Department of Independent Learning.

            She resides in Oil City with her husband, Reverend Alan Coudriet.

            Jon Weagraff of Titusville was named Head Volleyball Coach for the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville Volleyball Team beginning this fall.  He brings 27 years of personal volleyball experience to the court, including two years playing in the National Tournament.

            His coaching experience includes volleyball and baseball and four years of volleyball officiating.

            Weagraff is a graduate of Titusville High School and is currently employed as a manager at Conair in Franklin.  He resides in Titusville with his wife and three children.

            Joining Weagraff is Colleen Wilson Hofmeister, also of Titusville, as Assistant Volleyball Coach. 

            Hofmeister played four years of volleyball, basketball and track at Titusville High School and two years of volleyball and basketball at UPT.  She is graduate of UPT and a of the University of Pittsburgh.

            Hofmeister is employed by the Titusville School District and the mother of two sons.
