HEINZ CHAPEL CHOIR TO PERFORM AT UPT

The
Heinz Chapel Choir of the University of
Pittsburgh will perform at the University of
Pittsburgh at Titusville on Thursday, March 21,
at 7:30 p.m. in Henne Auditorium.
Under
the direction of John Goldsmith, the Choir will
perform a variety of American, British, West
African, Russian, Elizabethan England,
Brazilian, Gospel and Spiritual songs.
The
Choir is an auditioned ensemble made up of
University of Pittsburgh students who rehearse
four hours per week and receive one college
credit each semester for their participation.
The singers represent thirty-seven different
fields of study.
Goldsmith, who has served as director since
1989, is an a cappella specialist who
teaches the two-year ear-training course
sequence for music majors at Pitt. He has
conducted professional choirs in Houston and
Kansas City, and serves as Artistic Director of
The Bellefield Singers, a professional
six-voiced a capella ensemble.
A
professional countertenor, Goldsmith is an
Alumnus of Chanticleer who has appeared with
many orchestras, professional choirs and
universities in the United States, and has
performed with the Robert Shaw Festival Singers
in Carnegie Hall in New York and France.
