HARVEY NEXT IN SPOTLIGHT SERIES

TITUSVILLE, Oct. 9 -- Titusville Winter Theatre will perform the classic play, Harvey, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, Thursday, October 18, and Friday, October 19 in Henne Auditorium at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville.

Harvey, by Mary Chase, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1945 and served as the basis for the movie starring Jimmy Stewart.  Fifty years later, it still remains in constant production across the country.

Harvey tells the story of Elwood P. Dowd, a mild-mannered, friendly fellow who has one little quirk – his best friend is an invisible, six-foot tall rabbit.  Chase explores how Elwood’s eccentricity affects his family and the world around him in this joyous romp through “reality” and “sanity” that, in the end, bolsters the human spirit.

Under the direction of D.J. Sylvis, Harvey features UPT students Sarah LaBrie as Myrtle Mae Simmons, Alberta Zischkau as Mrs. Ethel Chauvenet, Stephen House as Dr. Lyman Sanderson, and Amy Ewing as Betty Chumley.

Working behind the scenes are UPT students Aubray Henkel and Grace Schaum as stage managers, Chad Horvath on stage crew, and UPT President Michael Worman as Assistant Director.

In addition, talent from Titusville, Oil City and Franklin combine to make a winning production.  From Titusville – Chantel Blose as Veta Louise Simmons and Lee Denlinger as Judge Omar Gaffney.  From Oil City – Jeff E. Brown as Duane Wilson, Kim Tarr as E. J. Lofgren, and Jamie Agnello as Miss Johnson.  From Franklin – Ron Slocum as Dr. William Chumley, Jodi Smith Hoover as Nurse Ruth Kelly, Christian Marshall as Elwood P. Dowd, and set designer Rob Hoover.

Harvey is a partnership venture between the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville and Titusville Winter Theatre, with support from the Titusville Leisure Services Board, as part of the 2001-2002 Spotlight Series of special events.

Tickets are available at the door.  For more information, please contact the UPT Office of Student Affairs at 814-827-4460.  Season tickets for the Spotlight Series are still available.
