Dr. Ping Furlan, associate professor of chemistry at UPT, is a member of the Project Team (made up of faculty from each of Pitt's campuses) who will implement a modern computational chemistry software package to enhance learning of chemical concepts at all instructional levels and at each of Pitt’s campuses.

TITUSVILLE, July 12 - The Chemistry Departments at all five University of Pittsburgh campuses have received an Innovation in Education Grant from the Office of the Provost and the Advisory Council on Instructional Excellence for the project “Computation and Molecular Visualization Across the Chemistry Curriculum at the University of Pittsburgh.”

Dr. Ping Furlan, associate professor of chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville, will serve as a member of the Project Team, along with faculty from the Pitt campuses in Oakland, Johnstown, Bradford and Greensburg.

The project will implement the CAChe software of Fujitsu, a modern computational chemistry software package, to enhance learning of chemical concepts at all instructional levels and at each of Pitt’s campuses.

The project goals include training for faculty and students, developing targeted course activities, and creating a web site to distribute instructional materials and provide training for each new generation of students.

The project directors are Dr. Elisabeth T. Bell-Loncella from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and Dr. David H. Waldeck from the University of Pittsburgh Oakland campus.

Dr. J. Grabowski at the Oakland campus will chair the “Implementation Committee” and will serve as a consultant and end user.

The Windows version of CAChe is available to Pitt faculty and students from Pitt's software download web site:  http://software.pitt.edu.
