PRESIDENT OF WQLN FEATURED SPEAKER

AT UPT ACADEMIC CONVOCATION

 

 

 

 

 

TITUSVILLE, Aug. 27 -- The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville will hold its fourteenth annual Academic Convocation on Thursday, August 30, at 2:00 p.m. on the veranda of McKinney Hall.

Patricia Combine-Simon, President and General Manager of WQLN Public Broadcasting of Northwest Pennsylvania, will deliver the keynote address.  Since being named president of WQLN in 1998, Combine-Simon has increased local production and radio listenership by 400%, built the Fatica Learning Center, and created an education services department that now serves over 12,000 children.

Prior to coming to WQLN, Combine-Simon was Director of National Programming, Marketing and Development for WLRN TV/FM in Miami, Florida, Director of Marketing and Development for WQLN in Erie, and Assistant Vice President of General Diversified Investment.

She is a member of several boards, including the Board of Trustees of the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville, Hamot Hospital, Erie, the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters, and the Erie Chamber of Commerce.

She has been recognized with numerous PBS awards, including certificates of achievement for corporate and foundation support, special fundraising events, overall development, individual giving, membership renewal and corporate support.

Combine-Simon is a graduate of Cleveland State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

During the convocation, an induction ceremony will be held for new members of Phi Theta Kappa, an honorary fraternity for two-year colleges.

UPT faculty in full academic dress will proceed to McKinney Hall from the J. Curtis McKinney II Student Union to the tunes of the bagpipe, played by Eugene Zimmerman.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony and reception immediately following.  In the event of rain, the convocation will relocate to Henne Auditorium in the Broadhurst Science Center.
