UPT CHEMISTRY STUDENTS BRING CHEMISTRY FUN
TO MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
TITUSVILLE, Nov. 21 -- Chemistry students from the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville recently entertained science classes at the Middle School with chemistry experiments.
Under the guidance of UPT chemistry students and Dr. Ping Furlan, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, over 140 local middle school students designed and created Christmas ornaments using a piece of galvanized sheet metal and two chemical solutions. The students learned about chemical reactions involving gas formation and color change while practicing artistic creativity within a chemical content.
In addition, each student received a copy of a chemistry manual containing procedures for "Kitchen Chemistry Fun" experiments that can be performed safely at home.
