CHEMISTRY CLUB AT UPT RECEIVES AWARD
TITUSVILLE, Nov. 2 -- The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville Chemistry Club recently received a "Salute to Excellence" Award from the American Chemical Society (ACS) for their outstanding participation in "Kitchen Chemistry" at Erie's Millcreek Mall earlier this fall.
The program, sponsored by the Erie Section of ACS, consisted of various hands-on fun activities for people of all ages. Six local ACS student affiliates participated in the program. The event was open to the public at no charge. "Kitchen Chemistry" was one of several events planned in celebration of National Chemistry Week 2000.
Additional events sponsored by the UPT Chemistry Club included "Chemistry Story Time" at the Benson Memorial Library, followed by a visit to the local Middle School. The Club concluded with a special holiday workshop, "Making Christmas Ornaments," which was held in the Broadhurst Science Center at UPT. All events were open to the public at no charge.
Dr. Ping Furlan, Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Chemistry Club Advisor, organized the events with the assistance of her UPT chemistry students.
