UPT CHEMISTRY CLUB HONORED AT

225th ACS NATIONAL MEETING

 

Chemistry Club Vice President Steve Scott accepts the  Outstanding Award on behalf of the UPT Chemistry Club at the 225th American Chemistry Society National Meeting.

TITUSVILLE, May 27 -- The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville Chemistry Club received an Outstanding Award at the 225th American Chemistry Society (ACS) National Meeting held this spring in New Orleans.  In addition, the Pitt Oakland Club also received an Outstanding Award.

This award is given to the top two percent of over 950 undergraduate student chapters nationwide.  During the awards ceremony, UPT was among 10 universities recognized in a film entitled “ACS Successful Student Affiliate Chapters 2001-02.”

Under the direction of Dr. Ping Furlan, Associate Professor of Chemistry, the UPT Club presented various chemistry demonstrations during Chem Demo Exchange Using Household Materials workshop.

During the Undergraduate Research Poster Session, UPT Club President Justin Servey and Vice President Steve Scott presented research results on their work, “A FTIR Analysis of Mouse Urine for its Urea Content.”  The project was directed by Furlan and Dr. Margaret Hermanek Peaslee, Professor of Biology.

At the Successful Students Affiliate Chapter Poster Session, the Club presented its chapter poster, “UPT-SAACS 2002-2003:  Increase an Awareness of How Chemistry Affects Our Everyday Living through Chapter Activities.”
