UPT STUDENT RECIPIENT OF

STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP

TITUSVILLE, Jan.12 --  Amy Bills, a native of Rouseville and a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville, has been awarded a study abroad scholarship through the University of Pittsburgh Study Abroad Program.  Bills will use the scholarship to travel to Nicaragua in March with other UPT students and study anthropology under the direction of Dr. Linda Winkler, associate professor of anthropology and biology at UPT.

Bills is a graduate of Maplewood High School where, as part of her Senior Project, she job-shadowed at The Derrick and 98.5 “The Well” in Oil City, as well as Channel 35 in Erie.  She is the daughter of Robert Bills of Wallaceville and Toddi Bills of Erie, and the granddaughter of James and Dorothy Bills of Wallaceville and John Burke of Erie and the late Ruby Burke.

At the completion of her sophomore year at UPT, Bills plans to continue her studies as a media and communications major at Clarion University.

Bills is a member of the UPT Travel Club, which will study anthropology in Nicaragua over spring break in March.  Dr. Winkler has conducted research on howling monkeys in Ometepe, Nicaragua for several years.  As part of their studies, the Club will visit the research site to view the howling monkeys in their natural habitat.
