STUDENT RECEIVES $5,000 VIRA I. HEINZ
TRAVEL STUDY AWARD
Youngsville resident and mother of three to
study abroad
this summer in the Czech Republic.

Marlene S. Hamrick of
Youngsville will study abroad in the Czech
Republic this summer as the recipient of a
$5,000 Vira L. Heinz Travel Study Award.
Hamrick graduated on April 24 with her
associate degree in business. |
TITUSVILLE, Apr. 23 – Marlene S. Hamrick,
a resident of Youngsville and a student in the
Business Program at the University of Pittsburgh
at Titusville, has been granted a $5,000 Vira I.
Heinz Travel Study Award for travel and study in
the Czech Republic for this summer.
As part of a four-week Study Abroad Program
offered through UPT, Hamrick will travel to
Prague, Olomouc, and Brno, in the Czech Republic
under the direction of Dr. Margaret H. Peaslee,
Vice President for Academic Affairs.
In Olomouc, Hamrick will attend the 2004 World
Congress of the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and
Sciences (SVU) at Palacky University. In Brno,
she will study the History of Genetics in the
Czech Republic at places important in the life
of the famous geneticist, Gregor Mendel.
Peaslee has conducted extensive research on
Gregor Mendel.
In Prague, Hamrick will visit business-related
institutions, such as the Prague Stock Exchange,
the Czech National Bank Exhibit, the Ministry of
Industry and Trade, the CMC Graduate School of
Business and the Charles University.
Her studies in the Business Program are directed
by Melanie O. Anderson, Assistant Professor of
Business.
Hamrick was named a Presidential Scholar for the
Fall Term 2003 at UPT. She is the wife of Rev.
Richard S. Hamrick and the mother of three
children, Tiffany, Ricky and Michael. The
Hamricks reside in Youngsville, Pennsylvania.
