Sophomore
Pre-Nursing Major
Chambersburg, PA
(former resident of the Bahamas)
Campus Activities:
Freshman Year
Vice President of Student Activities Board,
Biology Club,
Student Ambassador
Sophomore Year
Student Ambassador,
Resident Assistant
Path to UPT:
I applied to the main campus in Pittsburgh and was given the
option to begin my studies at the Titusville campus.
I actually didn’t view my acceptance to Titusville as a setback,
instead I saw the advantages of the smaller setting.
Reasons for Choosing UPT:
I have always wanted to be a part of the Pitt family. Everybody
recognizes the Pitt name and that’s important to me.
Plus, you can’t beat the personal attention at UPT!
Fun with Friends:
The Student Activities Board plans some great events. I
especially enjoy Spring Spectacular which features sumo wrestling,
bouncy boxing, and other fun activities. Since I don’t have my own
car, I use the campus van all the time!
I gather up a bunch of my friends, and we head to Erie or
Pittsburgh.
Career Plans:
I plan to earn my Associate Degree in Nursing at UPT and then
relocate to Pittsburgh to pursue my Bachelor’s Degree.
My ultimate goal is to become a nurse practitioner.
Hobbies:
Traveling – I’ve been to Barbados, Brazil, and Trinidad. I’ve
also seen much of the United States.
Cooking—especially Caribbean food
I would be glad to answer any
questions you have about UPT.

Good luck!

Path to UPT
Since my high school was big, I decided to apply to five large
universities. As my acceptance letters started to roll in,
I was a bit confused when I opened the one from Pitt. I had
never heard of the Options program, let alone Titusville!
My mom talked me into a campus visit, and what I heard from the
students really excited me. They talked about
personal attention, small classes, and the reputation of a Pitt
degree. I was sold and decided to enroll in the fall.
Reasons for Choosing UPT:
As I stated above, the professors know my name and treat me as
an individual. That's important to me.
I also wanted to be surrounded by people from different ethnic and
cultural backgrounds.
This surprises many people, but the Titusville campus is the most
diverse campus in the Pitt system!
Fun with Friends:
I love the outdoors so finding something to do is never hard for me.
I've gone hiking at Oil Creek State Park and
horseback riding at a nearby stable. The Biology Club sponsors
a soccer team so I can often be seen coaching along the sidelines.
The Spotlight Series also offers some great entertainment on campus
from musicals to comedy groups.
Career Plans:
Next year I will be relocating to the Pittsburgh campus to complete
my Bachelor's Degree. I plan to continue my studies
and eventually earn my PhD. My goal is to become a biomedical
researcher.
Hobbies:
When I get some free time, I like to read Dan Brown and James
Patterson books.
I also enjoy working out and playing dodgeball and racquetball in
the intramural sports program on campus
Please send me an email at
uptadm@pitt.edu if you have any questions about UPT
Enjoy your senior year!
A Message from the Director
Mr. John Mumford
Dear Options Student,
Congratulations on your admission to the
University of Pittsburgh at Titusville! I’m sure you’re eager to
learn of the opportunities that await you at UPT.
I know that the Options Program can seem a bit
confusing, so I’d like to clarify a few points for you. Let me
start out by saying that you are accepted and there is no need to re-apply. When you begin your studies
at UPT, you are earning Pitt credits from the
beginning. At UPT, you can begin any of Pitt’s majors and upon
satisfying major specific G.P.A. and credit requirements, you may relocate to any campus within the Pitt System to complete your
degree. Your credits will transfer and follow you to that campus.
One of the things that we are most proud of is being able to provide
the same courses offered at the Oakland Campus but in a smaller
setting, with the personal attention that all students deserve and
some need, in order to be successful.
Please feel free to navigate through our web
site to learn more about UPT, but I encourage you to come and visit
us to get a clear perspective. Our Options Open House is
scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2008. You can also call us
toll-free at 1-888-878-0462 and schedule a personal tour of the
campus.
During a campus visit, you will receive a tour
from one of our Student Ambassadors, who would be very happy to talk with you
about why they chose to begin their studies at Pitt-Titusville.
You’ll also have the opportunity to see our residence halls, and
you’ll learn about our sports, clubs and the activities we have here
at UPT.
Thank you for taking the time to check us out.
Please feel free to email me at
mumford@pitt.edu should you have any questions or if you
would like to receive a call from a current Options Student.
