The
certificate may be acquired independently of the associate degree and
satisfies some of the requirements of Section 4(b)(1) of the Pennsylvania
CPA Statute. However, it
should be noted that the certificate by itself will not permit a student
to take the CPA exam.
|
|
The
requirements to sit for the CPA exam are: (1) complete a program of
study in accounting at a college or university - the AICPA recommends at
least 150 hours of study (see Note 1 for PA requirements); (2) pass the
Uniform CPA Examination graded by AICPA; and (3) obtain a certain amount
of professional work experience in public accounting - however, this is
not required in all states (see Note 2 for PA requirements).
Note 1: Before
sitting for the exam, candidates must have graduated with a baccalaureate
or master's degree and have completed at least a total of 24 semester
credits in accounting and auditing, business law, finance or tax subjects
of a content satisfactory to the State Board of Accountancy (the
Board). Candidates who have completed 150 semester credits (optional
in Pennsylvania) must have the 24 semester credits in the subjects noted
above, along with 12 additional semester credits in accounting, auditing
or tax subjects of a content satisfactory to the Board.
Note 2: Candidates
who have completed 150 semester credits, as explained above, must now
complete two years (3,200 hours) of experience (including 800 hours of
attest activity) in order to become certified. As of January 1,
2000, candidates with 150 semester credits only need to complete one year
(1,600 hours) of experience (including 400 hours of attest activity) in
order to become certified. Candidates who have completed a
baccalaureate degree need to complete two years (3,200 hours) of
experience including 800 hours of attest activity) in order to become
certified. |
