Former UPT student - Now at Pittsburgh Campus Biological Sciences/Chemistry Minor
Monaca, PA |
| |
| Research Experience: |
I currently work in Rangos Research Center, which is a designated lab as part of UPMC’s Children’s Hospital. My title is Student Researcher in the Clinical Translation and Rehabilitation Laboratory (CTRL), which is part of the Stem Cell Research Center, directed by Dr. Johnny Huard, one of the most famous stem cell researchers in the world.
Our lab's focus is neuromuscular aging and the type of rehabilitation that can slow the process. I have submitted an abstract as second author and will be hearing whether or not it is accepted. |

| Career Plans: |
Following graduation, I plan to continue my studies and eventually become a physician assistant. |
| |
| Transition: |
| Basically, by having the preparation from UPT, I have been truly shaped into the scientist that I am.  My GPA is still high and the transition was great! I had no problems. |

| Path to UPT: |
| Since my high school was big, I decided to apply to five large universities. As my acceptance letters started to roll in, I was a bit confused when I opened the one from Pitt. I had never heard of the Options program, let alone Titusville!
My mom talked me into a campus visit, and what I heard from the students really excited me. They talked about
personal attention, small classes, and the reputation of a Pitt degree. I was sold and decided to enroll in the fall. |

| Reasons for Choosing UPT: |
As I stated above, the professors know my name and treat me as an individual. That’s important to me. I also wanted to be surrounded by people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. This surprises many people, but the Titusville campus is the most diverse campus in the Pitt system! |

| Fun With Friends: |
I love the outdoors so finding something to do is never hard for me. I’ve gone hiking at Oil Creek State Park and horseback riding at a nearby stable. The Biology Club sponsors a soccer team so I can often be seen coaching along the sidelines. The Spotlight Series also offers some great entertainment on campus from musicals to comedy groups. |
| |
| Hobbies: |
| When I get some free time, I like to read Dan Brown and James Patterson Books. I also enjoy working out and playing dodgeball and racquetball in the intramural sports program on campus. |
