The associate degree is an excellent option for students in some professional fields or for those who wish to pursue education part-time. UPT’s associate degrees are career oriented and help students either to prepare for a new job in business and industry or to enhance the skills needed for advancement in the job they currently hold. The program is designed to be flexible, allowing students to attend classes full or part-time, and is ideal for the older student returning to college.
The associate degree is also a good place to start on a four-year program. Credits earned at UPT can be transferred into programs at one of the other University of Pittsburgh campuses or into those at other colleges. However, to ensure a smooth transfer, students should consult with their advisor early in their program.
Students who have taken credits at other colleges or universities may be able to apply them toward one of UPT’s associate degrees. However, not all credits will transfer and only a maximum of 30 credits generally will be accepted toward completion of the degree. Evaluation of transcripts for transfer into an associate degree program will be made by the Vice President for Academic Affairs on an individual basis. It also should be noted that the final 15 hours of the degree must be completed in residence at the Titusville campus.
Students who have earned an associate degree at UPT and now wish to earn a second associate degree may do so by completing the requirements for the second degree. All appropriate course work from the first degree will apply to the second degree, up to a maximum of 45 credits. In other words, a minimum of fifteen new credits must be earned.
