Student Academic Guidelines

Probation, Suspension, Dismissal

(These are general guidelines and are solely for the purpose of determining academic probation, suspension, and dismissal. While these are the minimums for students in general, any program, degree, or major may set its own higher standards which will take precedence over these.)

  • For students to continue at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville after their first two terms here and remain in satisfactory academic standing, they must maintain a 1.75 or higher cumulative GPA. Full-time students must complete (finish with a grade) at least 12 credits per term.

  • Students who are taking two remedial math and composition courses or who have cumulative GPAs below 1.75 are on academic probation, limited to no more than 13 credits per term, and are subject to suspension or dismissal if they remain below 1.75 for two consecutive terms.

  • Students who fail to progress in the remedial courses (as described in that policy) will be dismissed from the university at the end of the term in which they fail to progress as required.

  • Students who have not passed both MATH 0031 and ENGCMP 0200 by the end of their fourth terms will be dismissed.

  • Students with cumulative GPAs below 1.75 after any two consecutive terms and who have not completed at least 12 credits per term (if full-time) will be placed on a one-year suspension from the university.

  • Students with term GPAs which fall below 1.00 in any term will be placed on suspension for the following term.

  • Students with cumulative GPAs below 1.00 for any two consecutive terms will be dismissed from the university.

  • Students who receive a second suspension will be dismissed from the university.

  • Students who have been suspended need to let us know if they wish to return after the suspension period is over. If more than a year has elapsed, they need to submit a reinstatement form.

  • Students with a term GPA below 2.00 will be placed on probation and will be limited to 13 credits per term until their GPA is 2.00 or higher.

Honors

To earn honors the following term GPAs are used:

University Scholar GPA of 4.00
President's List GPA of 3.50 - 3.99
Dean's List GPA of 3.20 - 3.49

To receive honors recognition for the term, a student must have earned at least 12 credits. If a course has a mandatory grading system of S/N, grades of N will not be acceptable for University Scholar honors.
