Internships are a great way for students to gain work experience while
achieving academic credit for what they learn. Although internships may
include paid and unpaid positions, the work experience itself is not as
important as what the student learns. Thus, the work experience is
carefully monitored and must meet specific learning goals related to
specific academic areas. In other words, students earn degree credit
for what they learn, not for the work they perform.
To qualify for an internship, you
- Must be at least a sophomore (have completed two terms at UPT and have earned at least
30 credits)
- Have earned a GPA of at least 2.50 in the major and at least 2.50 overall
- May earn a maximum of three credits
- Must complete a minimum of 45 on-site hours for each credit
- Must have the approval of the faculty supervisor and the division chair or the academic
dean
