MAC AT TITUSVILLE HUB ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR NEXT CLASSES TO BEGIN IN JANUARY

TITUSVILLE, Pa - The Manufacturing Assistance Center at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville’s Education and Training Hub is accepting applications for its Basic Machining and Computer Numerical Control courses that will begin the week of Jan. 8.

Students in the Basic Machining course use classroom, shop, and machine time to develop manual machining and tooling skills. Conventional machining includes learning how to operate mills, lathes, grinders and saws; use micrometers and calipers; study applied math through trigonometry; and read machining prints.

Individuals looking to enhance their current skills may enter the CNC course to learn the CNC programming and operation skills employers find most difficult to connect with in the region’s job market. This course also includes G-code machine language programming, production set-up, tool selection, and the care and maintenance of the CNC mill and lathe.

Students have the option of enrolling in the six-week daytime course, which meets three days a week, or the 15-week evening program, which meets twice a week. Each program includes 188 hours of learning with classroom, workshop, and online module learning.

“The MAC program offerings are an asset to our region with the number of manufacturing and machining opportunities available,” said Dr. Stephanie Fiely, Hub executive director. “Students in this course benefit from the small class size and hands-on training from an instructor who has manufacturing experience.”

Funding may be available to assist with the cost of the program. These options will be discussed with each applicant based on their individual needs and employment status.

Students who have taken one or both of the courses have found positions at several regional companies, including Roser Technologies Inc. in Titusville and Acutec Precision Aerospace Inc. and C.J. Industries, both in Meadville.
